School of Agricultural & Food Sciences

Animal Production Technology

Program Overview

The global demand for high-quality animal protein requires modern, scientific approaches to livestock management that prioritise animal welfare, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. The Animal Production Technology program at ISEST equips students with advanced skills in breeding, nutrition, healthcare, and industrial processing across various livestock sectors, including poultry, swine, ruminants, and micro-livestock.

This heavily practical program shifts livestock management away from traditional husbandry toward data-driven, bio-secure production methods. Enrolling at the HND level and progressing to a B.Tech, students gain hands-on experience in specialised farm labs and experimental facilities. They graduate fully prepared to optimise herd reproduction cycles, formulate high-performance commercial feeds, prevent disease outbreaks, and manage large-scale commercial livestock operations.

Main Objectives

  • To teach the biological principles of animal anatomy, physiology, and nutritional chemistry.
  • To master modern techniques in animal breeding, genetic selection, and artificial insemination.
  • To build competency in feed formulation and economic evaluation of livestock nutritional regimes.
  • To train students in farm bio-security protocols, disease diagnosis, and veterinary hygiene management.
  • To equip graduates with the skills to design and manage climate-resilient, automated livestock housing systems.
