Wood Works (Joinery and Cabinet Making)

Program Overview

While carpentry forms the structural skeleton of a building, joinery and cabinet making give it its soul, functionality, and aesthetic finish. The Wood Works (Joinery and Cabinet Making) program at ISEST is an advanced blend of precision engineering, spatial design, and fine craftsmanship. This discipline trains professionals to design, fabricate, and install premium interior architectural elements, custom cabinetry, doors, windows, and high-end furniture.

This program goes far beyond basic woodworking to focus on high-end interior styling, complex geometric joints, and industrialised manufacturing. Enrolling at the HND level and advancing to a B.Tech, students train in modern workshops equipped with both traditional precision hand tools and automated machinery. They learn how to read interior design blueprints, select and match exotic veneers, utilise computer-aided manufacturing, and execute flawless finishes, preparing them to lead the luxury interior fitting and modular furniture industries.

Main Objectives

  • To teach the micro-structures, properties, and behavioral mechanics of diverse hardwood, softwood, and engineered wood panels.
  • To develop advanced proficiency in technical drafting, spatial furniture design, and CAD/CAM software application.
  • To master the execution of complex woodworking joints (dovetails, mortise-and-tenon, doweling) for maximum structural durability and clean aesthetics.
  • To train students in the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized workshop machinery (spindle molders, surface planers, edge-banders, CNC routers).
  • To equip graduates with the entrepreneurial and management skills required to estimate costs, budget projects, and run industrialized furniture manufacturing plants.
