Control of Instrumentation And Regulation

Program Overview

Modern industrial plants, ranging from oil refineries and chemical processing facilities to automated bottling factories, operate continuously without human hands touching the product. This seamless automation is driven by the Control Instrumentation and Regulation program at ISEST, a highly specialized engineering discipline focused on the design, installation, calibration, and optimization of industrial measurement and automated control loop systems.

This program bridges the gap between physical parameters and digital logic systems. Enrolling at the HND level and progressing to a B.Tech, students train in advanced automation laboratories equipped with industrial sensors, pneumatic actuators, and process simulation rigs. They master how to monitor and regulate critical variables such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and chemical levels using closed-loop control theory (PID  tuning). Graduates emerge as elite instrumentation specialists fully prepared to program complex automated systems, optimize plant efficiency, and prevent catastrophic failures in hazardous industrial environments.

Main Objectives

  • To teach the physical and mathematical principles governing industrial process dynamics, measurement systems, and automated feedback loops.
  • To develop expert proficiency in selecting, installing, and calibrating advanced industrial sensors, smart transmitters, and final control elements (actuators and control valves).
  • To train students in programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and configuring Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA interfaces.
  • To build complete mastery in tuning Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers to stabilize erratic industrial processes.
  • To equip graduates with a deep understanding of functional safety standards, intrinsic safety barriers, and industrial risk mitigation protocols.
