Undergraduate Program

Civil Engineering Technology

Program Overview

Every stable structure, from residential complexes and towering high-rises to bridges and public transport networks, relies on the precision of civil engineering technicians. The Civil Engineering Technology program at ISEST blends mathematical and physical sciences with advanced architectural software, project management, and structural construction techniques.

This program moves students from theoretical mechanics into hands-on site management and structural execution. Enrolling at the HND level and progressing to a B.Tech, students master the performance of concrete mixtures, structural estimation, and digital blueprint design. They graduate fully prepared to supervise active construction sites, run material stress tests, and bridge the gap between architectural concept and physical reality.

Main Objectives

  • To teach the core engineering principles of structural analysis, mechanics, and concrete technology.
  • To develop expert proficiency in interpreting, drawing, and designing structural blueprints using advanced digital CAD software.
  • To train students in conducting rigorous quantity surveys, project cost estimations, and budget management.
  • To equip graduates with the administrative and technical skills required to safely supervise construction sites and manage labor workflows.
  • To instill comprehensive knowledge of national building safety codes, material quality control, and workplace safety standards.

Skills Acquired

Graduates of the program will be proficient in:

  • Structural Modeling & Drafting: Designing and analyzing building frames using software like AutoCAD, Revit, and Robot Structural Analysis.
  • Concrete & Material Testing: Conducting laboratory stress, slump, and compression tests on concrete, aggregates, and steel reinforcements.
  • Quantity Surveying & Estimation: Calculating exact material volumes, drafting bills of quantities (BOQ), and estimating structural labor costs.
  • Construction Site Supervision: Managing daily site operations, checking rebar placements, and ensuring adherence to structural timelines.
  • Site Layout & Leveling: Using dumpy levels and surveying instrumentation to establish correct building lines, foundations, and elevations.
  • Project Scheduling: Utilizing project management tools to track workflows, resource allocation, and critical paths on-site.

Target Audience

  • Baccalauréat/A-Level graduates with a strong aptitude for physics, mathematics, and architectural drawing.
  • Masons, site workers, or construction technicians looking to upgrade their skills and earn formal engineering credentials.
  • Draftsmen and architectural designers who want to specialize heavily in the structural engineering and execution side of buildings.
  • Aspiring contractors, building inspectors, and real estate developers seeking a rigorous technical base.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can pursue roles such as:

  • Construction Site Supervisor / Foreman
  • Civil Engineering Technician
  • Quantity Surveyor / Cost Estimator
  • Structural Drafter / CAD Technician
  • Materials Quality Control Inspector
  • Assistant Project Manager (Construction)
  • Independent Construction Contractor

Opportunities for Further Studies

  • Master’s degrees in Structural Engineering, Construction Project Management, Highway Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
