Maintenance of Industrial System

Program Overview

As manufacturing plants, processing factories, and automated assembly lines become more complex, the demand for specialized engineers who can prevent system breakdowns is at an all-time high. The Maintenance of Industrial Systems program at ISEST is an advanced engineering discipline that trains professionals to monitor, diagnose, repair, and optimize heavy industrial machinery and automated production systems.

This program bridges the gap between mechanical execution, electrical control, and fluid power. Enrolling at the HND level and advancing to a B.Tech, students spend extensive hours in electro-pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation laboratories. They learn to interpret complex technical schematics, program automated controllers, execute precision alignment, and deploy modern predictive maintenance technologies like vibration analysis and thermal imaging. Graduates emerge as highly versatile “electro-mechanical” troubleshooters ready to maximize production uptime, reduce corporate operational losses, and lead technical teams in heavy industrial plants.

Main Objectives

  • To teach the structural mechanics, kinematics, and operational physics of industrial machine components (gears, bearings, pumps, compressors)
  • To develop expert proficiency in reading and designing integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • To train students in utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to schedule, log, and budget plant-wide maintenance workflows.
  • To build advanced skills in programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and diagnostic tools to isolate system faults rapidly.
  • To equip graduates with total safety management strategies, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and root-cause failure analysis (RCFA).

Skills Acquired

Graduates of the program will be proficient in:

  • Multi-Disciplinary Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnosing faults across overlapping mechanical, electrical, fluid power, and electronic control systems.
  • Fluid Power Engineering: Designing, assembling, and repairing complex high-pressure hydraulic loops and industrial pneumatic control circuits.
  • PLC & Automation Calibration: Interfacing, programming, and debugging industrial logic controllers (such as Siemens, Schneider, or Allen-Bradley) to control machinery.
  • Predictive Condition Monitoring: Utilizing digital vibration meters, laser alignment tools, and infrared thermography cameras to catch machine wear before failure occurs.
  • Industrial Welding & Machining: Executing precision structural repairs using arc/MIG/TIG welding techniques and manual machine lathes.
  • Root-Cause Analysis & Planning: Applying standard analytical models (like Ishikawa diagrams or the 5 Whys) to prevent recurring mechanical breakdowns.
